Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks
The APDCA participants include leading global providers, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.
” Balancing power sustainability with the rising request for digital infrastructure is just one of APAC’s defining difficulties,” states Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the right plan frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can ensure that digital improvement developments hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”
The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has released a new white paper calling for stronger guideline and market cooperation to improve power sustainability all over data facilities in the region.
Amongst the examples mentioned is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– an accreditation plan collectively created by the Infocomm Media Growth Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to recognise information centres with strong sustainability functionality and energy-efficient practices.
Steered by cloud adoption, electronic companies and artificial intelligence (AI), local demand for data centres is forecasted to grow close to 20% annually through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projections that Southeast Asia’s information centre electricity use will certainly almost double by 2030 compared to 2024– a trend mirrored throughout the broader APAC region.

Titled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was published on Oct 27 and lays out methods to lower the environmental effect of data centres while fulfilling the climbing need for electronic structure in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
The white paper highlights best techniques to boost power efficiency throughout the data centre lifecycle– from site selection, design and building and construction to operations and tracking. It additionally recommends policy procedures to increase accessibility to clean and renewable energy through stronger grid framework and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
Developers are motivated to work together carefully with regulators and industry partners to develop regular energy effectiveness standards across the APAC markets.
